Colon Hydrotherapy

Colon hydrotherapy, is a gentle and effective method of removing waste from the large intestine, without the use of drugs. By introducing filtered and temperature regulated water into the colon, the waste is softened and loosened, resulting in evacuation through natural peristalsis. This process is repeated a few times during a session.

What is an open colonic?

We have a LIBBE brand. With an open system, you lie on a molded fiberglass table that looks like a recliner. The form-fitted table has a basin cut into it & a small, disposable rectal nozzle, about the size of a pencil is attached at one end. A gentle, continuous flow of gravity-fed water flows through the rectal tube and into you. You use your own body to release the water and waste. Your therapist remains in the room and provides instruction, but private time can be provided once you are familiar with how everything operates and feel comfortable being left on your own.

What is a closed colonic?

With a closed system, you lie on a massage table and the administration of the colonic is performed by the therapist, who controls the flow of water and assists in stimulating peristaltic movements through gentle massage during the procedure. The outflow from your colon can be seen through a glass enclosed tube that is inside the closed system to enable you and the therapist to interpret what issues may be present in your colon.

What are the benefits of colon therapy?

By cleansing the colon of impacted and putrefactive fecal matter, colonics may offer relief from gas, bloating and constipation. Colon therapy aids in the hydration of the large intestine. It can also removes unwanted toxins, bacteria, and yeast. Many people report feeling lighter and more energetic with their sense of well being dramatically improved.

Is it clean?

At Revel & Rose, we use all new and disposable tubes and nozzles for each appointment. Our colonic devices all feature temperature controlled water, mixing and back flow prevention valves, pressure and temperature sensors, water purification, and disinfecting standards. The Colon therapy room affords thorough cleansing and disinfection following each treatment.

What should I do to prepare for my colonic?

You can have a successful colonic without any special preparations beforehand, but it is best to avoid heavy food for a few hours before your treatment. If you are hungry eat a piece of fruit or vegetable and some raw nuts to keep your blood sugar up. It can be helpful to avoid refined foods (white flour, white sugar, table salt, processed fats and heavy meats) for a few days before. Many clients enjoy pairing colonics with juicing or other cleansing. Colon cleansing herbs can also be taken before the treatment to allow for an easier process.

How often should I get colon therapy?

Colonics are most effective when done in a series and in close proximity (ideally 2-3 times per week for a short duration, though once per week also works well). The number in a series is individually assessed on information gathered during the first few visits. This will depend on your health and what you are trying to achieve.

These are just a few approaches to colon hydrotherapy:

  • A quick fix to an urgent problem (e.g. severe constipation or prep for surgery or a colonoscopy): 1-3 colonics over a 1-2 week period.
  • A long term tool for sustainable change: 1-2 colonics on average per month.
  • Seasonal Cleansing for preventative maintenance and enhancement: 1-3 colonics per season. We recommend first time clients do a series of three in a 1-2 week period.

Can I eat normally after my colonic?

After your treatment, it is best to eat lightly. Focus on slightly steamed veggies, lean protein (white, not red), and green juices. The next day you may resume your normal healthy diet. Focus on added electrolytes.

Is this a safe procedure?

Yes, as long as you do not have any of the contraindications. If you have any questions or concerns please consult with your doctor. The equipment that touches your body is just for you, new and disposable. The manufacture and use of the machine is regulated by safety guidelines mandated by the FDA. The machine has an adapter and shut-off mechanism that never allows it to exert a harmful pressure on your colon.
